New Book to Feature Finn and Jannah

Stop the press, my friends! News this past week has us looking forward to an amazing read featuring two of the most tragic characters in the Star Wars mythos.

What We Know About The Book: Random House and Lucasfilm have announced a new Young Adult (YA) novel by Kwame Mbalia that will hit shelves on October 21, 2025, in hardcover.

  • Kwame Mbalia is a New York Times bestselling author and publisher. His first novel, Tristan Strong Punches A Hole In The Sky, is an epic middle-grade fantasy set in a world featuring both African American folk heroes and West African gods. We're excited to see Mbalia join the ranks of Star Wars authors!

  • The YA novel will be titled Star Wars: The Last Order, set after The Rise of Skywalker. According to the publisher's summary, “the Resistance rescues a ship full of young passengers who had been kidnapped by the First Order.” Finn and Jannah set out to find out who's responsible and, along the way, confront their pasts as former First Order stormtroopers.

  • The publisher even teases more by stating, “Take a deep dive into the pasts of … Finn and Jannah in this … action-packed story that fans have been asking for.”

What We Know About The Characters: Mbalia's novel places Finn and Jannah in the spotlight. While Finn has appeared in other Star Wars books, this will be Jannah's first time as a main character.

  • Finn: FN-2187 gets his moment in the literature sun for the first time since 2019's Resistance Reborn!

    • We know he was a small child, taken from his family by the First Order to serve as a stormtrooper.

    • What else lies behind his tragic story? What hidden secrets and quests made Finn half of the best bromance in Star Wars, and why was his redemption arc so powerful and endearing? We cannot wait for the opportunity to read some answers!

  • Jannah: Formerly known as TZ-1719, Episode IX left us with big questions about this rebel’s backstory.

    • An orbak-riding hero residing on Kef Bir, the ocean moon that harbored the second Death Star's wreckage, she joined Finn and the Resistance in destroying the Final Order's fleet.

    • Tantalizingly, in the final moments of The Rise of Skywalker, she tells Lando Calrissian that she doesn't know where she comes from. Lando's reply, "Well, let's find out," has had us waiting for a novel like this ever since!

We’re all fine here now — how about you? This is massive news for Finn and Jannah fans, as well as for the post-Sequel Trilogy story arc in general. Knowing more about these two characters builds a richer and more satisfying interpretation of the last three movies and, fingers crossed, translates to more screen time in some way or another in the future!

🛰️ In the Youtiniverse

The Dispatch team and everyone else at Youtini want to send a massive congratulations to Youtini’s very own Eric Eilersen and his bride on their beautiful wedding ceremony, held (naturally) on May the Fourth. Congratulations to the newlyweds and best wishes for what’s to come for you both!

Note: Eric wrote an update last week regarding expected content output for the next week while they continue their post-wedding celebrations. Quite a lot of us are filling in where we can behind the scenes — but as longtime friends of Youtini might suspect, there’s really no replacing Eric.
